(mostly unconventional)
travel essentials

After years of traveling solo, living out of a backpack, and learning the hard way what’s actually worth bringing—I’ve figured out my true essentials.
This guide includes some of the things I use and love, from packing basics to affordable cruelty-free skincare, and the special gadgets I use to document the journey along the way.
Every product linked here has earned a spot in my bag by being super practical, lightweight, and make life on the road easier or more enjoyable!
I hope this list inspires you to pack with intention, so you set yourself up to live a memorable journey.

Hanging Toiletry Bag
If you travel with a lot of skincare or toiletries, this is a total game changer. This one keeps everything organized and easy to access with a built-in hanger, plus a removable transparent pouch you can take through airport security whenever you are requested to separate all liquids.
Osprey Backpacks
After having an amazing bag from a Chilean brand for years, it is time to admit that when it comes to traveling gear, Osprey is everyone’s favorite for a reason! Make sure to check out their official Amazon store to find the best fit for you.

Packing Cubes
The most practical option out there to keep your backpack or luggage from turning into a complete mess by day 2 of your trip, plus they make unpacking at each stop super quick and easy. Pick your favorite color!
Waterproof Organizer
Ideal for keeping all your electronics, accessories, and even important documents safe and tidy in one place. It’s a small thing that makes a huge difference when you're constantly on the move.
Packing
Let’s start with the basics: nothing beats a well-organized backpack on the road.
Here are my favorite items to keep everything in place whether you're hiking or hostel-hopping between cities.

The Ordinary Skincare
Simple, affordable, and effective. I always travel with The Ordinary’s serum to complete my simple skincare routine. The Hyaluronic Acid 2% with Vit B5 is my favorite for keeping my skin happy through long flights and changing climates.
COOLA Sunscreens
I’ve been using COOLA’s reef-safe sunscreens (both cream and spray) for years and love how lightweight and non-greasy they feel. They’re just perfect for sunny adventures and everyday life!

Garnier Hair & Skincare
I like sticking to things I know work, and Garnier’s products have never let me down. I use their micellar water, face moisturizers, shampoo and conditioner (they even have solid shampoo which is excellent for travelers!). Easy to find, with options for everyone, and budget-friendly.
Hair + Skincare
Taking care of your skin and hair while traveling doesn’t have to mean overpacking or overspending. These are my favorite vegan-friendly and cruelty-free brands, with options for all skin and hair types.
Lightweight, affordable, and perfect for keeping that fresh glow no matter the climate or how many bus rides you’ve taken.

Laundry Detergent Sheets
Super lightweight and mess-free, these travel-friendly sheets come with and without fragrance for you to keep your clothes fresh no matter where you are. They’re not easy to find in every country, so be sure to stock up before a trip.
Pillowcase for Travel
Hostel beds can be hit or miss, but bringing your own lightweight pillowcase guarantees a clean surface for your face every night. I recommend a satin one (with a zipper so it stays in place), and it’s better for your skin and hair too! Just make sure not to forget it when you check out.

Splash-Proof Passport Cover
Keep your passport safe and easy to handle with a simple, transparent cover. The ones that aren’t bulky are easier for people to handle, and having a little extra pocket inside for important papers like boarding passes is a great bonus.
TSA-Approved Travel Lock
A must for securing your luggage and hostel lockers. A TSA-approved lock keeps your stuff safe without causing issues at airport security. It’s one of those tiny investments that saves you a lot of stress.
Hostel surviving kit
Hostels are full of adventure — and a few little surprises you’ll want to be ready for. These essentials will make your stay cleaner, safer, and way more comfortable. Trust me, a few smart items can turn any hostel into your cozy (temporary) home!

Paparge Journaling Supplies
Since travel journaling is one of the things that represents Wildera, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to share the brand that has the most beautiful and useful dotted journals. Paparge’s supplies are durable and excellent value for money.
Kodak FunSaver Disposable Camera
There’s something magical about capturing travel moments on film. I always pack one of these for a bit of nostalgia and those unique and spontaneous shots that you simply can’t replicate digitally.

Canon Ivy Mini Photo Printer
This tiny devise can bring your travel memories to life by printing out your favorite pictures right from your phone. There is no ink involved, just the special photo paper (that is also a sticker!), plus it is vegan-friendly, unlike most instant camera films which contain animal-derived gelatin.
Kindle Paperwhite
If you like reading while solo traveling, you need a Kindle to make carrying an entire library in your pocket possible! This link has the newest version, but I personally have the older one and can honestly say it gets the job done perfectly, so be sure to compare and get whichever works for you.
Pictures + Journaling
Some memories deserve more than just your phone gallery. From capturing the moment to reflecting on it later, these tools help you turn your travels into something tangible and inspire meaningful moments.
